Identified palaeonemertean larva
We have found one species of Carinina in the NE Pacific and identified its larva (right) which has a small eye and claw-like anterior cirri.
There is one Carinoma species reported in the NE Pacific. Based on our surveys of planktonic larvae and benthic adults, we have found that there are actually five species. We've identified the larvae (above) of five and the adults of four species.
The palaeonemertean genus, Cephalothrix is another good example of new diversity found by looking for larvae in the plankton. We have found a total of five Cephalothrix species, where only two were previously known.
We have identified the larva of Tubulanus polymorphus (right), Tubulanus sexlineatus (below) and identified three other larvae from the genus Tubulanus (above).
